Carlton
About Carlton:
Lygon Street in Carlton is Melbourne’s own Little Italy. It is the place where the city’s famous café culture was born, with the arrival of Melbourne’s first espresso machine at one of the street’s Italian-owned cafes in the 1950s.
Further down Lygon Street you’ll find bookshops, galleries and plenty of shops selling the latest European and Australian fashions. The crowd here is mixed – from students at the nearby university, to the literary set buying up big at Readings bookstore and older Italian men just watching the world go by.
How to get there:
Tram: Number 1 or 22 heading north from Swanston Street
Bus: Numbers 20, 201, 203 or 207 from Melbourne Central
Travelling time: 15 minutes.

Shopping
My friends is going to bring those Hidden Secret cards in for me next week.
Meanwhile, here's some details about great shopping places. Apparently Chapel St is shit (imagine Neutral Bay)
Bridge Road, Richmond
Indulge in divine after-five gear from a range of stores, you can even get something made-to-measure. Discover bargains at outlets including Country Road, Perri Cutten, Kookai and Quick Brown Fox. Find something a little bit different from Exentrix and new and vintage fashion at Meet me at Mike's. Just keep on walking along the street and discover lingerie, sportswear, street wear, suits and more.
From the city, take the number 48 or 75 tram from Flinders Street to Bridge Road. Alternatively, take a leisurely walk along Flinders Street and Wellington Parade, past the MCG and on to Bridge Road.
GPO
The historic Melbourne General Post Office (GPO) reopened in August 2004 as a fashion, food and shopping precinct of serious sophistication. Covering an entire city block it houses more than 60 stores that span the spectrum of the Melbourne shopping experience.
Discover funky threads for guys and girls at Roy, Ben Sherman and Camper Shoes. Get European menswear from Satori and Harrolds Shirt. Find gorgeous gear for girls at Wayne Cooper, Akira, Zimmerman and Nicolangëla. The list of high profile contemporary brands goes on.
The white GPO building is located on the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth streets. Catch any tram on Bourke or Elizabeth streets or catch a train to Flinders Street Station and stroll north along Elizabeth Street.
QV
QV is Melbourne's new inner city laneway precinct featuring a dynamic mix of high-end fashion and lifestyle retailers and a European style piazza with cafés, restaurants and bars.
Albert Coates Lane is home to Australian and international fashion labels, including Wayne Cooper, Cactus Jam, Dizingof, Christensen Copenhagen, Nicola Finetti, Alberto Piazza and Guess. Boasting world renowned boutiques, many of the Albert Coates Lane stores deliver fashion to Melbourne fresh from the catwalks of Milan and Paris.
Street, surf and youth fashion are based in Red Cape Lane with stores such as Street Exchange, Jaksbad, Loreak Mendian, Glue and Edge Clothing.
QV is located between Swanston and Russell streets and Lonsdale and Little Lonsdale streets. Catch any tram that runs along Swanston Street or take the train to Melbourne Central.
Plus, a massive list of CBD shops can be seen down the left nav here and here.

St Kilda
From Visit Melbourne:
"Away from the foreshore, you’ll find much of St Kilda’s activity concentrated in Fitzroy and Acland streets. Fitzroy Street is renowned for its cool cafes, restaurants and bars, with tables spilling onto the footpath, and is one of Melbourne’s most attractive eating and drinking streets. Nearby Acland Street is a bustling, vibrant street with an eclectic mix of restaurants, wine bars and continental cake shops. During the day the streets are lined with people drinking lattes; at night they’re buzzing with clubbers and night owls.
The second-hand stores in Acland Street are favourites for bric-a-brac shoppers and retro fashion dressers. Go treasure hunting for a stylish gift, and don’t miss the selection of independent music and book stores, as well as second-hand furniture."
How to get there:
Any tram with St Kilda beach displayed or number 96 from Bourke Street, 15 and 16 on Swanston Street or number 12 on Collins Street
Travelling time: 25 minutes
Attractions:
Luna Park, 18 Lower Esplanade

Hotel suggestions - 4 stars in East CBD
I chose East CBD because it's close to Fitzroy AKA fun things. However if you wanted to spend alot of time in St Kilda (I thought it was crap) then we can look towards Southbank. Southbank is really touristy though and looks like it's trying to be Sydney. I don't like it either haha.
